Since the release of the first Android tablet thirteen years ago, Samsung has continuously raised the bar for productivity, creativity, and entertainment with each new Galaxy Tab S series. Check out below how the Samsung Galaxy Tab has evolved in eight generations, from the year 2010 to 2022.

2010: Galaxy Tab

All of this began in 2010 when Samsung released the Galaxy Tab (7.0), the world's first real Android tablet.

It is compact and solidly made. The first size was 7 inches, then 8.9 inches, and finally 10.1 inches.

2012: Galaxy Note 10.1

Samsung slimmed down the Galaxy Note 10.1 in 2012 following the success of its first tablet. The S Pen was introduced as the Galaxy Tab's companion for advancing multitasking and entertainment capabilities.

When removed from its slot, the tablet activates a taskbar that provides fast access to S Pen-optimized apps – a precursor to Air Command, which includes features such as icon customization, shortcut creation, and screen write.

2013: Galaxy Note 8.0

The Galaxy Note 8-inch tablet with Smart Remote features, which allows users to control televisions and Blu-ray/DVD players, was introduced by Samsung in 2013. The following year, Samsung released the Galaxy Tab Active with a new design designed for tough work, including a waterproof feature and the C Pen, a more durable version of the S Pen that can survive a 1.2-meter drop with only its protective shell.

2014: Galaxy Tab S

In 2014, Samsung also introduced its first premium line, Galaxy Tab S, which was available in 10.5-inch and 8.4-inch sizes. It includes a high-end tablet with a Super AMOLED display as well as Galaxy Gifts, a partnership with 30 of the leading mobile content service providers.

2015: Galaxy Tab S2

The successor of Galaxy Tab S, the Galaxy Tab S2, was released in 2015 with a 4:3 aspect ratio designed for browsing articles, e-books, and reading online content. In addition, Microsoft Office was preinstalled to increase the productivity of its customers.

2017: Galaxy Tab S3

2017 was also a noteworthy year due to the Galaxy Tab S3's 9.7-inch Super AMOLED display. Samsung incorporated its renowned S Pen into its premium tablet lineup, enabling special features such as PDF Annotation and expert-level drawing.

It provided superior video and gaming experiences, in addition to being a useful productivity instrument. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Book, with its 10.6-inch TFT LCD and 12-inch Super AMOLED variants, offered enhanced computing capability for work and play to professionals.

2018: Galaxy Tab S4

In 2018, Samsung enhanced its premium line with the release of Samsung DeX on the Galaxy Tab S4, allowing users to enjoy PC-like productivity and tablet portability simultaneously. It was also equipped with a 07mm S Pen for writing convenience.

The tablet featured a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display, four 1.2W speakers powered by AKG, and Dolby Atmos sound technology for an immersive entertainment experience.

2019: Galaxy Tab S5e

In 2019, Samsung released its Tab S5e with the thinnest frame and a weight of less than one pound.

It also got additional features that could control connected devices with SmartThings, including connected lighting and doors.

2019: Galaxy Tab S6

The Galaxy Tab S6 was also released in 2019, with 5G connectivity added in early 2020, making it the first 5G tablet in the world.

In addition, Samsung redesigned the S Pen to give it more power and control, including a gesture function dubbed S Pen Air actions that enables users to take selfies and videos faster and control multimedia content.

2020: Galaxy Tab S6 Lite

The slim and lightweight Galaxy Tab S6 Lite with a modern design was released in May 2020 with a crystal-clear display that can expand into a desktop workstation and transmit multiple windows to a Galaxy device of choice.

2021: Galaxy Tab S7 Series

In 2021, Galaxy Tab S7, S7+, and Tab S7 FE entered the market with significant enhancements. Users can simply synchronize their Galaxy devices with Samsung Notes for seamless productivity, enabling them to master multitasking with wireless connectivity on the go.

It also features a novel "center stage" camera placement in landscape mode.

2022: Galaxy Tab S8 Series

Samsung created the largest and most daring Galaxy tablets with a 14.6-inch display for the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, a 12.4-inch display for the Galaxy S8+, and an 11-inch display for the Galaxy S8 with the fastest 4nm processor and Armor Aluminum for a more elegant and lightweight device experience.

The most recent S Pen is the most precise and has the lowest latency of 2.8ms, compared to 5.6ms on the S7+. It also integrates seamlessly with the Galaxy device ecosystem and its partners.
