Riot SEA LoL, TFT servers go live with events, rewards

Riot Games has announced the relaunch of League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics in Southeast Asia, bringing various events and rewards to players.

According to Riot, this relaunch signifies the start of Riot server operations and publishing for LoL and TFT across the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and Vietnam, concluding their 12-year publishing partnership with Garena.

On November 18, 2022, players began transferring their Garena LoL/TFT account information to their Riot accounts. After a successful migration and the introduction of new Riot servers, players may anticipate being a part of the Riot ecosystem, getting access to previously unavailable content in cross-franchise events, as well as engaging in out-of-game experiences like community activities and Riot-run esports.

In addition, players will have access to regional Riot publishing services such as Localization, Billing, and Player Support, as well as future local marketing activations and partnerships. From this point forward, all SEA League of Legends and TFT players will utilize the Riot Client.

Alex Kraynov, managing director for Riot Games in APAC, said that their goal with this migration is "to provide Southeast Asian players with the best experience and the same level of in-game events and content" as what players in other Riot regions enjoy.

Kyavnov added that "League of Legends' players will also enjoy deeper content integration within the Riot ecosystem, and exciting in-game and cross-franchise campaigns."

With this announcement, Riot Games now self-publishes all five of its titles, including Valorant (a hero shooter), League of Legends: Wild Rift (a mobile MOBA), and Legends of Runeterra (a collectible card game) in the region.

Relaunch Events and Rewards

Riot Games has announced that the rolling ranked season will start on January 10, 2023.

Moreover, LoL players in Southeast Asia can look forward to a Welcome Event kicking off on January 13 that will allow them to earn Tokens exchangeable for free permanent skin shards, legendary eggs, and even Ultimate skins.

In honor of League of Legends' original launch, SEA players will also get the unique opportunity to unlock all champions released from 2009 to 2021 for free just by completing in-game missions.

Further, Riot Games will usher in the festive season with the Lunar New Year Event that starts January 13.

Teamfight Tactics Monsters Attack! Progression

The TFT Monsters Attack! Set 8 rank of SEA players will also migrate to the new Riot servers.

With the relaunch, Set 8 content will be waiting for players on the new Riot servers. Although Monsters Attack Pass progress will not be carried over, the purchase of the pass and any earned inventory will be migrated.

As a one-time bonus tied to the welcome event, players will receive a modified version of Monsters Attack Pass-related missions that offer accelerated experience gain to compensate for the shortened play time.

LoL Season 2023 Kickoff Tournament

This new esports season also marks a change in League esports' ownership and operations. In addition, Riot Games will revive the Vietnam Championship Series (VCS). Riot intends to continue providing League pro teams and fans with the most exciting and entertaining esports experiences following the transition in publishing.

On the 10th and 11th of January, the LCS, LEC, LCK, LPL, LJL, CBLOL, LLA, PCS, and VCS will host a special 2-day broadcasted event previewing the 2023 season and highlighting players to watch, giving fans a first look at Season 2023 on the Rift and a glimpse of what's to come for League esports. Soon, additional details regarding the event's format and schedule will be made available. Further, the Kickoff event will replace the League of Legends All-Star Event.
