Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro, MIUI 14 interface unveiled

Xiaomi has unveiled its second generation of devices created in collaboration with Leica, the Xiaomi 13 series, in China. The latest flagship lineup is comprised of Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro. Moreover, the mobile brand introduced its latest user interface, MIUI 14, with new features and improvements.

Both Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro utilize Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is manufactured using TSMC's 4nm process. Moreover, the two devices feature a new design and a significant upgrade in the camera department, both of which feature Leica co-engineered lenses. They also flaunt 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.

Xiaomi 13

The Xiaomi 13 smartphone is slightly bigger compared to the Xiaomi 12, equipping a 6.36-inch full HD+ (1080 x 2400 pixels) OLED with a high 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HLG, and 1900nits of peak brightness.

Moreover, Xiaomi 13's triple rear camera setup, tuned by Leica, consists of a 50-megapixel IMX 800 primary camera with Hyper OIS, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel 3.2x telephoto camera with OIS. It supports 8K video recording. On the display's punch-hole, there's a 32-megapixel selfie camera. There's also a fingerprint reader under the display.

Inside, the phone uses the 3.2GHz 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 octa-core processor with a brand-new Adreno GPU. It is coupled with 8GB/12GB LPDDR5X RAM and storage configurations of either 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB UFS 4.0.

Powering Xiaomi 13 is a 4,500mAh battery, which supports a 67W fast charging adapter via USB-C. The charger can fully charge the device in only 38 minutes.

Other highlights include Dolby Atmos stereo speakers with Dolby tracking, an IP68 rating for water and dust protection, an IR blaster, and USB-C audio output. For connectivity, it has 5G, 4G LTE, WiFi 6E (dual-band), Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, and dual SIM support. For the software, the phone runs Android 13 OS with MIUI 14 skin. It comes in several colorways: Black, Blue, White, Gray, Mint, Dark Blue, Red, Green, and Yellow.

The Xiaomi 13, with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, retails for CNY 3,999 (roughly PHP 31.8K). The 8GB+256GB variant is priced at CNY 4,299 (roughly PHP 34.2K), while the 12GB+256GB model is priced at CNY 4,599 (roughly PHP 36.6K). Xiaomi 13 series will be available in China beginning December 17. Pricing and availability for international customers, including the Philippines, will be announced at a later date.

Xiaomi 13 Pro

The Xiaomi 13 Pro smartphone comes with a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED with 120Hz variable screen refresh rate, QHD+ 3200 x 1440 resolution, 1920Hz DC dimming, ambient color temperature sensor, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. For a scratch-free screen, it is further protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

The phone is also donned with faux leather or ceramic back design. Xiaomi also incorporated a new nano-tech material that is resistant to photodegradation and peeling to the Mountain Blue color option, maintaining its softness and fine texture. The phone is also available in Ceramic Black, Ceramic Flora Green, and Ceramic White.

For the cameras, Xiaomi 13 Pro's triple rear camera module is composed of a 50-megapixel Sony IMX989 f/1.9 OIS lens, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide Leica lens, and a 50-megapixel 3.2x telephoto Leica lens. It also has 32-megapixel front-facing camera tucked in the display's top-centered punch-hole.

Powering Xiaomi 13 Pro is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, coupled with Adreno 740 GPU, 8GB or 12GB LPDDR5X RAM, up to 512GB UFS 4.0 RAM (the 128GB model only has UFS 3.1), and a big 4,820mAh battery capacity with support USB-C 120W fast charging. To safely charge the phone, Xiaomi integrated the Surge G1 and P1 chips.

Other specs include Dolby Atmos-backed stereo speakers with head tracking feature, Hi-Res Audio, WiFi 6E, 5G SA/NSA, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.2, IR Blaster, NFC, GPS (L1 + L5), NavIC, and dual SIM slots. The device ships with Android 13 OS with the latest MIUI 14 skin out of the box.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro is priced at CNY 4,999 (roughly PHP 39.8K) for the 8GB+128GB model, CNY 5,399 (roughly PHP 43K) for the 8GB+256GB model, CNY 5,799 (roughly PHP 46K) for the 12GB+256GB model, and CNY 5,799 (roughly PHP 50K) for the 12GB+512GB model.

MIUI 14

MIUI 14 focuses on simplicity and ease of use, displaying refined details everywhere and delivering enduringly smooth operations. The latest Xiaomi MIUI skin significantly reduces the number of non-removable system applications from sixteen to eight.

The new software not only improves the operating system by reorganizing structural codings and optimizing system resource allocations but also provides access to third-party applications, thereby creating a fluid experience throughout the entire system.

In addition, MIUI 14 offers new widgets, enhances privacy protection on the device, and provides new interconnectivity features.

Xiaomi states that MIUI 14 is 60% more fluid than its predecessor on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.

The user interface of MIUI 14 has also been enhanced to provide a visually richer and more personalized experience. It now has four sizes of large, replaceable icons. You can also add virtual pets and plants to your home screen to give it some personality.

MIUI's new high-speed interconnection bus increases Bluetooth discovery speed by 50 percent for TWS earphones, 12 percent for televisions, and 77 percent for video streaming. Xiaomi also promotes MIUI 14 as a human-centered operating system, which means it considers the user's perspective and adapts to their needs.

Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro will be the first smartphones to come with MIUI 14 on December 14. Xiaomi also revealed the rollout schedule of the new interface for users in China. Below is the list of Xiaomi phones to receive the MIUI 14 Chinese ROM update.
