Where Winds Meet – a new open-world RPG w/ Wuxia-style combat

Where Winds Meet, developed by Everstone Studio, an emerging game development studio supported by NetEase Games, was presented on Gamescom 2022 Opening Night Live (ONL). The new open-world action-adventure RPG made its debut at the event with an action-packed trailer, showing its living world and exciting Wuxia combat system.

The ONL trailer sets the scene for the game, taking place during the twilight of the Ten Kingdoms, an era in Chinese history during which an entire dynasty could collapse in the blink of an eye.

The melody of "The Beautiful Lady Yu" announced the end of the Southern Tang Dynasty's final emperor's reign. As emperor, Li Yu ruled the world, but he was better known as the Immortal King of Poetry. It was his passion for poetry, not his desire for power, that ultimately cost him the war and made him a prisoner of Song. During his three years of incarceration, Li constantly yearned for his homeland and lover. After realizing his fate lay in a cup of poisoned wine, he transformed his desires into "The Beautiful Lady Yu," a masterpiece.

Where Winds Meet is a brand new open-world sandbox game for PC, where players will be able to forge their own destiny in the final days of the Ten Kingdoms era of Chinese history, experience an epic story, take part in fast-paced martial arts battles, experience different occupations with their own quests, and explore a massive game world that is both beautiful to behold and filled with secrets waiting to be discovered.

Game Storyline

"Where Winds Meet" takes place at the beginning of the Northern Song Dynasty, during a time of conflict and warfare. The player assumes the role of a wandering swordsman who grew up during this brutal era and relied on their martial arts and sword fighting abilities to survive against countless enemies. The player is thrust into this ruthless world and must decide whether to uphold their moral code in order to protect the innocent and fight for justice or to live only for themselves and risk the land descending further into anarchy and despair.

Where Winds Meet Features

The combat consists of fast-paced Wuxia-style battles in which the player can counter enemy blows, use Tai Chi to reflect their attacks, or use acrobatics to evade their defenses and attack from all angles. The player also has access to various martial arts abilities and ranged weapons, allowing them to break away from a single fighting style and use a variety of abilities to defeat their enemies, thereby developing their own approach to combat.

The world of Where Winds Meet is also home to a variety of wild animals and supernatural creatures, each of which requires a unique approach to combat. The swordsman can use their martial arts skills to explore the beautiful world of the game by scaling walls, leaping across rooftops, and sprinting across the waves. The player also has a trustworthy mount that will swiftly transport him across the breathtaking landscape.

The player's version of the swordsman can assume a variety of roles in the game world, such as a doctor who saves lives or a merchant who earns as much gold as possible. The game also features a robust free-construction system with over 600 authentic components that enable the player to build structures in the world and customize it. The player can also choose to live freely and ignore these optional activities in order to pursue the main story and confront the realm's most dangerous foes.
