Filipino 90's kids are all familiar with '90s anime classics such as "Voltes V," "Sailor Moon," "Flame of Recca," "Ghost Fighters," "Inuyasha," "Slam Dunk," and "Shaman King."
While it's enjoyable to revisit classics, there are anime series released between 2010 and 2020 that are well worth checking out, especially when you're finding an anime to binge-watch.
Below is the list of anime series loved by most anime fans from the year 2010 to 2020. The anime shows are listed in no particular order.
1. Hunter x Hunter
Hunter x Hunter has been a classic for a long time, but the 2011 remake reintroduced the film to a new generation.
The anime series follows a young boy named Gon as he embarks on finding his father and learning how to become a Hunter like him. The remake includes the Chimera Ant arc from the 1999 series, which was never completed.
2. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge. As of February 2021, the manga had sold over 150 million copies (including digital reproductions), making it one of the all-time best-selling manga series.
Ufotable served as the animation studio for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba that impressed many viewers due to its jaw-dropping visuals. The company also animated hit anime series such as Fate/Zero and God Eater.
Meanwhile, its sequel movie Demon Slayer: Mugen Train replaced "Spirited Away" to become the highest-grossing anime film of all time.
The story surrounds Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy who begins on a journey to become a demon slayer after his family is killed and his younger sister Nezuko is transformed into a demon.
3. My Hero Academia
My Hero Academia chronicles the life of Midoriya Izuku, who was born "quirkless" (or without a superpower) in a world populated by superpowered individuals.
After acquiring a quirk from his mentor and predecessor, All Might, he embarks on the difficult path of becoming a hero.
4. Dr. Stone
Dr. Stone is based on Riichiro Inagaki's manga of the same title, which Boichi illustrated.
It follows Taiju, a high school student who awakens in a world populated by statues several millennia after humanity was petrified. Senku, his science-obsessed friend who has been awake for a few months, wishes to re-ignite civilization through the power of science.
5. Jujutsu Kaisen
Jujutsu Kaisen, the anime adaptation of Gege Akutami's manga, is taking the world by storm.
After being exposed to curses, Itadori Yuuji is recruited to study to become a Jujutsu sorcerer.
He found the courage to locate the fragments of the curse he consumed for it to perish along with him.
6. Attack on Titan
Attack on Titan is an epic anime series by Hajime Isayama. You can't afford this anime as it is impressive and, at the same time, a tragic story. The famous anime is nearing its end, with its manga has been concluded after 11 years, and the anime soon ends with its final part.
The story is set in a world where humans live behind walls that protect them from giant monsters and follows Eren Yeager as he makes it his life mission to kill the deadly Titans.
7. Haikyu!!
As with Attack on Titan, Haruichi Furudate's Haikyu!! manga has concluded. However, the anime series has four seasons (and hopefully more) to enjoy.
Haikyu!! follows a young man named Hinata Shouyou, determined to overcome his diminutive stature and become a great volleyball player. He and Kageyama Tobio (former rival, now teammate) attempt to ascend to the top by joining Karasuno High School's volleyball club.
8. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is an anime series based on Hirohiko Araki's manga, tells the story of the adventures of the Joestar family through the generations. Members of the family who have been endowed with powers are destined to defeat supernatural adversaries.
The anime, which currently has four seasons, covers the first five volumes of the manga. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has been renewed for a sixth season.
9. One-Punch Man
It's nice to watch an anime hero with a colossal body having supernatural abilities. What about a simple-looking bald man who can split the sky or jump from the Moon to Earth in seconds. Saitama of One-Punch Man will surely entertain you.
One-Punch Man tells the story of this superhero capable of defeating any enemy with a single punch. However, his unparalleled strength has left him dissatisfied.
10. Mob Psycho 100
Like One-Punch Man, Mob Psycho 100 is an anime series written and illustrated by ONE.
Mob Psycho 100 is a lighthearted series about Shigeo, a middle school student. He may appear a normal boy, but he is actually a formidable psychic whose abilities are on the verge of erupting unless he suppresses his emotions.
11. Chihayafuru
The show is based on Yuki Suetsugu's manga series and follows Chihaya as she explores the world of karuta, a physically and mentally taxing card game inspired by the classic Japanese anthology of Hundred Poets.
As a freshman in high school, she establishes a karuta club and qualifying for the national championship.
12. Psycho-Pass
Psycho-Pass is a cyberpunk psychological suspense novel set in a near-future dystopia.
In this world, the Sybil System governs society, with Inspectors and Enforcers investigating criminal cases. Humans are constantly evaluated for their behavior, and those identified as latent criminals are hired to protect the Inspectors as they carry out their duties.
13. Noragami
Noragami revolves around a minor deity named Yato, who is involved in a road accident with a human girl named Hiyori. Additionally, he acquires Yukine, a wandering spirit, as his weapon.
They embark on adventures together as Yato pursues his goal of becoming a famous god.
14. Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma
Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma is based on Yuto Tsukuda's manga of the same title, which Shun Saeki illustrated. It follows Soma Yukihira as he pursues his dream of becoming a chef by enrolling in a prestigious culinary school following his family's restaurant closure.
It began serialization in November 2012 in Japan's Weekly Shonen Jump and concluded in June 2019.
15. Your Lie in April
Are you looking for tear-jerker anime? Your Lie in April follows piano prodigy Kousei Arima, whose desire to play vanishes following the death of his mother. He meets the free-spirited violinist Kaori Miyazono, who completely transforms his life.
The 2014 popular series is based on Naoshi Arakawa's 2011–2015 manga.
16. Yuri on Ice
Yuri on Ice has amassed a relatively large fan base since its 2016 release.
The anime series follows Yuuri Katsuki, a defeated figure skater who returns to Japan. However, following a bizarre series of events, he discovers five-time world champion, Victor Nikiforov, offering to coach him.
17. Fruits Basket
A heartwarming and emotional story about friendship and love, Fruits Basket follows Tohru Honda, a homeless orphan.
She becomes entangled in the Soma clan's affairs, whose members have been cursed to transform into Zodiac animals when hugged by the opposite sex.
18. Violet Evergarden
Violet Evergarden is inarguably a creative series. The story follows Violet as she takes a break from her day job as a ghostwriter to work as a tutor for Isabella York, a wealthy woman with serious issues and a lonely past.
She only has a few days to teach Isabella the etiquette of high society while also making her student genuinely happy.
19. Erased
Erased is an anime series that combines crime, suspense, and supernatural elements.
It centers on Satoru Fujinuma, who has the ability to travel back in time to save other people's lives. He has a chance to save his murdered classmates when he awakens 18 years in the past.
20. Devilman Crybaby
Set in a world where demons have been reawakened and humanity is in turmoil, Devilman Crybaby follows a boy who transforms into a being with the strength of a demon but a human heart.
Ryo, the mysterious friend of the sensitive demon-boy, leads him into a brutal, degenerate war against evil.
