Globe bolsters data privacy enforcement to protect customers' digital experience

Globe Telecom strengthens its data privacy and information security, assuring customers that their information is always safe and secure.

With Globe's more than 80 million customers shifting their activities to digital, the telco's commitment to data privacy and information security has become even more critical. It is essential for data protection and customer trust.

Globe data protection officer Atty. Irish Salandanan-Almeida said, "We are our customers' partner in asserting their privacy rights. We believe that strict compliance with privacy and security policies is a critical factor in ensuring safe and secure communications for our customers. We continue to push forward privacy and security initiatives through different touch points to protect customers and their families from identity thefts and scams."

Globe's Consumer Consent Statements have been simplified to help customers better understand their privacy rights and how their information is handled. Additionally, they are kept informed of emerging threats such as online scams, social engineering, and other similar schemes and what they can do to avoid falling victim to these illegal activities.

Globe Telecom also uses a standardized and automated Privacy and Security Risk Assessment (PSRA) process internally for all projects and initiatives, regardless of their size, scope, or complexity. This aims to safeguard and secure the organization's infrastructure, applications, and data against identified threats and manage risk exposure from third-party vendors providing information technology products and services.

Besides policy compliance, Globe also noted that creating an environment that helps employees understand the importance of privacy and security is vital to delivering its promise to serve as a champion of customer trust and privacy rights.

"We want to equip our employees with the knowledge needed to comply with the Data Privacy Act and our Privacy Policy to enable them to securely collect, handle, and process customer information that was entrusted to us," added Salandanan-Almeida.

Globe requires all employees to complete the Data Privacy and Information Security learning modules to ensure they understand and adhere to the Data Privacy Act, Privacy Policy, and Globe internal policies. In 2020, 76 percent of employees had completed modules on safe web browsing, ransomware protection, mobile device, and email security, among other topics.

Additionally, frontliners - those who have direct access to customer information - receive special data privacy training. Reminders are sent regularly to remind them of the critical nature of protecting customers' data privacy and the consequences of failing to follow standard guidelines.

Globe and its affiliates, namely 917Ventures, AdSpark, Asticom, GCash, ECPay, Cascadeo, Kickstart, KonsultaMD, Third Pillar, and Yondu, share and practice security standards. Globe established a council comprising the member companies' Chief Information Security Officers and Data Protection Officers to calibrate privacy and security standards.

Globe hosted an Information Security and Data Privacy Virtual General Assembly earlier this month. Over 1,500 Globe employees and partners benefited from sharing information and best practices by security and data privacy experts from various organizations.
